No check from rebate yet

Sent in 72 bar codes cut from 5.56 Winchester ammo in late August. Customer service said next week the check will be in mail.

Terrible ammo quality, worse customer service, worst refund interaction

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Winchester ammo is the most disgusting "new" ammo I've ever seen. They try to scam you with rusted cases and say it's annealing. Then take 4 months to learn how to properly send out a cardboard box. Then take another 5 months to have "mixups" in their departments and not know where your refund check is. It is a scam company. Do not ever purchase from them.

Never heard back

Original review Sep 17, 2023
I had purchased a custom made .17 wsm rifle just before ammo became scarce. How could I get you to produce for me 25 grain .17 wsm. If need be I can afford up to 10,000 rounds if it necessary for you to run a limited production of these for me. Please let me know either way. Thank you in advance. Vinny C Ret. USMC Officer

Ammo destroyed my bolt action rifle & blew up the magazine in another

We haven’t heard back from Winchester, and have tried calling with no answer

Original review Aug 30, 2023
We have recently been experiencing ammo failure with the following ammo; 22 Win Mag 40g Varmint & Small Game, and 22-250 Remington 55g Varmint & Preditar. The 22 win Mag experienced an explosion in the chamber resulting in the destruction of a rotary magazine in a Ruger PRF. 22-250 experienced chamber explosion, and at this point the bolt cannot be removed. It was taken to a gunsmith, and it was found to be in repairable. I possess more boxes if Winchester ammo that I will not use seeing that it is unsafe, as damaged one of my rifles and destroyed the other. I have tried unsuccessfully to reach Winchester. The dont return phone calls, nor to they respond to my email.

Cons:
  • And poor customer service
  • Poor quality control

Preferred solution: I would like to be reimbursed for the cost of the rifle that was destroyed, and I do not want the ammo that I have remaining but don’t want to give or sell to anyone. I want Winchester to take it back.

User's recommendation: Do not use this ammo if you value your guns

Ammunition query

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Please help! Winchester ammo rocks! No problem. Never have had an issue with Winchester Ammo or firearms in my 77 years. This is an information request only. I have nearly worn out the keyboard of my computer trying to find specific Winchester bullet information. Namely the bullet diameter of your 7.62X39 (X76239H) Hog Special bullet (projectile). Would the diameter be .308, .310 or even .311? Is the bullet diameter of all your 7.62X39 ammunition the same? If so, or not, what would the bullet diameter be of these various types? Are the bullets (projectiles) loaded in the White-Tail and Hog loads the same? Just wondering because hunting Ammunition in 762X39 is not the easiest to find. If the bullets are the same I could use either loading on either species. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated as I much prefer to use Winchester products (factory ammo, primers, powder and brass). Bill Booth bill.booth@***.net

Pros:
  • Absolute reliability and performance
Cons:
  • Price

Preferred solution: just information

User's recommendation: In my 77 years on this earth, I have never had an issue with Winchester ammo or firearms. I shot competitive trap and skeet shooting AA's by the pallet. I've hunted from Alaska to South Africa with never a problem with a firearm. Winchester has never let me down. Functions as designed. Can't ask for more than that!

Winchester Ammunition - Defective Winchester 28 gauge ammo
Updated by user Feb 09, 2023

Winchester Olin rep told me they would send me 0ne box of shells when available.

Original review Feb 03, 2023
I was recently bird hunting with my 28 gauge Merkel side by side using new Winchester AA HS shells 8 1/2 shot. After firing the gun and trying to reload, it would not breech up. I finally discovered that the new shells were completely split top to bottom, even part of the rim. Out of a box of 25 I found 3 defective shells. Lucky for me and the gun it would not breech up. I checked 5 more boxes and found 6 more for a total of 9 defective shells. Beware of Winchester ammo.

Bad bullets 150gr extreme point

extreme point bullets after firing in my 308pro hunter contender the barrel would release but would only open part way. After removing the empty case and then reloading back into the weapon it would not close without closing barrel hard and then would not open again even without being discharged because it had already been fired.
